South San Francisco

About the Coastside Region

Just to clarify, there is no actual city or community called "Coastside". Rather, Coastside is how many locals refer to their home region along the coast south of San Francisco. This area encompasses several small cities and unincorporated communities in San Mateo County. The key communities that make up the Coastside are:

  1. Half Moon Bay – The largest city and the central hub of the area, located along the coast.
  2. Moss Beach – A small coastal community just north of Half Moon Bay, known for its quiet, scenic atmosphere.
  3. Montara – Located just north of Moss Beach, Montara is another small coastal town with beautiful beaches and views.
  4. Pescadero – A small, rural town south of Half Moon Bay, known for its agricultural background and proximity to natural parks.
  5. El Granada – Situated just north of Half Moon Bay, it is a coastal community with a mix of residential areas and rural land.
  6. San Gregorio – A small rural community farther south, known for its rustic character and proximity to hiking and beaches.
  7. Miramar – A small residential area located between Half Moon Bay and El Granada, known for its coastal charm.

The Coastside also includes parts of the California State Route 1, our scenic highway that runs along the coast, and several parks and natural reserves, such as Pescadero State Beach, Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, and Gray Whale Cove State Beach.

Locals typically consider the Coastside as a region of coastal charm with a slower pace of life, often sought after for its beaches, hiking trails, and small-town atmosphere, all within a short drive from San Francisco.
